It’s hard to believe it’s been 7 years since we first saw the Whigs, a jangly power trio from Athens who won our heart with a sound that was equal parts Paul Westerberg, alternative rock and bouncy bass lines. Since being hailed as “the best unsigned band in the country” by Rolling Stone, the group has made three critically acclaimed albums, appeared on the Late Night television circuit, and toured extensively in stadiums opening for rock behemoths, Kings of Leon.
Not one to rest on holidays, the Whigs pull into Atlanta on Friday night to play the Variety Playhouse before jet-setting across the pond for more KOL stadium shows. And if you need any more reason to go, we suggest you check out this video of one of our all time favorite Whigs songs, “Right Hand on My Heart,” off their album, Mission Control. Happy listening … and happy holidays.
